Pinpoint Test M: The Autolock Does Not Operate Correctly

Normal Operation

The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module energizes the lock relay based upon input from the ajar switches, the Transmission Range (TR) sensor, and the vehicle speed signal. The RFA module receives the vehicle speed signal and the TR sensor input from the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The RFA module locks the doors when the following sequence of conditions is met:

- All the doors are closed
- The ignition is in the RUN mode
- The vehicle is shifted into any gear putting the vehicle in motion
- The vehicle attains a speed greater than 20 km/h (12 mph)

- DTC U0423:68 (Invalid Data Received From Instrument Panel Control Module: Event Information) - a continuous DTC that sets if the RFA module receives an invalid data message from the IPC for the TR sensor input or engine data.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Door ajar switches
- Vehicle speed signal
- TR sensor input
- RFA module

PINPOINT TEST M: THE AUTOLOCK DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

-------------------------------------------------
M1 CHECK THE AUTOLOCKS CONFIGURATION

- Check to see if the autolocks are enabled. Refer to Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming.
- Are the autolocks enabled?

Yes
GO to M2.

No
ENABLE the autolocks. REFER to Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming Autolock and Auto-Unlock Programming. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
M2 CHECK THE RECORDED RFA MODULE AND IPC DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST

- Check the recorded results from the RFA module and IPC self-test.
- Is DTC U0423:68 present?

Yes
RETRIEVE and REPAIR all non-network DTCs in the IPC. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to M3.

-------------------------------------------------
M3 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION

- Open and close each door while observing the courtesy lamp operation.
- Do the courtesy lamps operate correctly?

Yes
GO to M4.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

-------------------------------------------------
M4 CHECK THE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION

- Check the operation of the speedometer.
- Does the speedometer operate correctly?

Yes
GO to M5.

No
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.

-------------------------------------------------
M5 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION RANGE INDICATOR

- Observe the PRNDL display while moving the shift lever through each gear position.
- Does the PRNDL display operate correctly?

Yes
GO to M6.

No
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.

-------------------------------------------------
M6 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION

- Disconnect all the RFA module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the RFA module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
