Principles of Operation
NOTE: The roof opening panel control switch operates both the power shade and the sliding glass panel. The sliding glass panel will only open after the shade panels are open. The shade panels will only close after the sliding glass panel is closed.
Roof Opening Panel Shade
The roof opening panel assembly uses an integrated motor and module to operate the roof opening panel shades and sliding glass panel. The roof opening panel control switch supplies ground signal(s) to the roof opening sliding glass panel motor to request the selected mode of operation. The roof opening sliding glass panel motor acts as a master controller for the shade motor. For information about power shade operation, refer to Roof Opening Panel Description and Operation .
The roof opening panel motor must be initialized when one of the following occurs:
- The replacement or removal of the drive system
- Excessive false stalls are encountered
- The shade(s) are removed or replaced
- The shade motor becomes de-initialized (will stutter step open)
The roof opening panel motor must be initialized when one of the following occur:
- The replacement or removal of the drive system
- Excessive false stalls are encountered
- The sliding glass panel is removed
- The sliding glass motor becomes de-initialized (will stop early and switch needs to be reactivated)
NOTE: Any glass opening operation will first fully open the shade panels. Before the shade panels may be closed, the glass panel must be fully closed.
Roof Opening Sliding Glass Panel
The roof opening panel assembly uses an integrated motor and module to operate the roof opening panel sliding glass. The roof opening sliding glass panel can be opened or closed by activating the roof opening panel control switch. The roof opening sliding glass panel can be vented by activating the TILT control switch. The roof opening panel control switch and TILT switch each provide ground signals to the glass panel motor to request the desired mode of operation. For information about the roof opening sliding glass panel operation, refer to Roof Opening Panel Description and Operation.
The shade motor and sliding glass panel motor have 3 thermal operating modes:
- Full function: In their fully functioning state, the motors allow all normal operations of the shades and glass.
- Reduced function: If either motor begins to overheat, it will enter a reduced function mode. No express operation is possible and it will allow open or close motion in steps of 50.8 mm (2 in).
- No function: Excessive heating causes no function mode. The motor will not operate in the close direction, but will open in steps of 50.8 mm (2 in). Once the open position is reached, the motor shuts itself down until it is sufficiently cooled.
