Seat Backrest - Front

Removal

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors or probe the electrical connectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: For component identification and locations, refer to Seat - Exploded View, Front Seat - Exploded View, Front.

All seats

1. Remove the front seat. For additional information, refer to Seat - Front Seat - Front.

2. Separate the carpet flap toe-kick.

1. Separate the J-clip from the cushion frame.

2. Peel the carpet flap toe-kick up and remove the pin-type retainers from the cushion side shield and recliner cover.





3. NOTE: The seat track rear height adjust must be all the way up or the recliner cover post will not slide out of the seat track hole.

Remove the recliner cover.

1. Remove the scrivet.

2. Slide the recliner cover post out of the seat track hole and remove the cover.





4. From the front of the seat, disengage the wire harness retainer and disconnect the seat control switch electrical connectors.





5. Remove the cushion side shield.

1. Remove the scrivet at the back.

2. Remove the screw at the front.

3. Pull out at the side to release the 3 retainers.

4. Slide down and separate the hook.





Driver seat

NOTE: Note wire harness routing for correct installation.

6. If equipped, disengage the DVD player electrical connector and wire harness retainers.





7. Release the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers under the seat.





8. Disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.

1. Slide the locking clip back.

2. Push the tab in and disconnect the electrical connector.





9. Disconnect the backrest electrical connector and release the wire harness retainers attached under the seat.





Passenger seat

10. If equipped, disengage the DVD player electrical connector and wire harness retainers.





11. Separate the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers. Disconnect the backrest electrical connector.





12. Disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.

1. Slide the locking clip back.

2. Push the tab in and disconnect the electrical connector.





All seats

13. Remove the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts and remove the backrest assembly.

Installation

All seats

1. Install the backrest assembly:
- Position the backrest assembly to the seat track and start the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts by hand.
- Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).

Driver seat

2. Connect the backrest feed electrical connector. Route and attach the wire harness retainers.

3. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.





4. Attach the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers under the seat as noted during removal.

5. If equipped, route and engage the DVD player electrical connector and wire harness retainers.

Passenger seat

6. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.





7. Connect the backrest feed electrical connector, route and attach the wire harness retainers. Route and attach the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers.
- For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to Seat Wire Harness Routing Seat Wire Harness Routing.

8. If equipped, route and engage the DVD player electrical connector and wire harness retainers.
- For correct passenger seat DVD player wire harness routing, refer to Seat Wire Harness Routing Seat Wire Harness Routing.

All seats

9. Install the cushion side shield in the following sequence.

1. Return all retaining clips back to the cushion side shield before installing the shield.

2. Engage the hook retainer behind the cushion frame.

3. Align and engage the 3 retainers.

4. Install the screw at the front.

5. Install the scrivet at the back.

10. From the front of the seat, connect the seat control switch electrical connectors and engage the wire harness retainer.





11. Install the recliner cover in the following sequence.

1. Return the barrel nut back to the seat before installing the cover.

2. Slide the recliner cover post into the seat track hole.

3. Install the scrivet.

12. Attach the carpet flap toe-kick in the following sequence.

1. Install the pin-type retainers into the cushion side shield and recliner cover.

2. Attach the J-clip to the cushion frame.
