Instrument Panel
Removal
All vehicles
1. Rotate the steering wheel until the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
2. Drain the coolant. For additional information, refer to Engine Cooling Cooling System Draining, Filling And Bleeding.
3. Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to Climate Control System - General Information and Diagnostics Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging.
4. Remove the PCM. For additional information, refer to Electronic Engine Controls Service and Repair.
5. Remove the wire harness retainer from the PCM bracket stud.
6. Remove the 3 nuts and the PCM bracket.
7. Remove the vacuum hose clip from the strut tower cross brace.
8. NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.
Remove the strut tower cross brace.
- Remove the LH and RH strut upper mount inboard nuts.
Vehicles without turbocharger
9. Remove the vacuum hose and the evaporator purge solenoid hose from the upper intake manifold and position aside.
10. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Intake Air Distribution and Filtering Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe.
All vehicles
11. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core and position aside.
12. Remove the Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) manifold nut and position the TXV manifold aside.
- Discard the O-ring seals.
13. Remove the 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts.
14. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to Steering Column Removal and Replacement.
15. Remove the front seats. For additional information, refer to Seating Seat - Front.
16. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Console - Short, Floor Console - Short, Floor or Console - Long, Floor Console - Long, Floor.
17. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation A-Pillar Trim Panel.
18. Remove the LH and RH front door scuff plate trim panels. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation Service and Repair.
19. Remove the hood release handle bolt and position aside the hood release handle.
20. Disconnect the LH instrument panel bulkhead electrical connector.
21. Disconnect the 2 Smart Junction Box (SJB) lower electrical connectors and the lower bulkhead electrical connector.
22. Remove and discard the steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.
23. Detach the steering column shaft from the steering column.
24. Remove the driver footrest pad.
- Using a suitable tool such as a prybar, lift the driver footrest pad upward, releasing the upper and lower pin-type retainers.
25. NOTICE: To avoid damaging the carpet with coolant when the instrument panel is removed, the carpet must be removed.
Remove the LH and RH front carpet sections.
- Remove the 2 pin-type retainers.
26. Remove the 2 pin-type retainers and the rear footwell duct.
27. Disconnect the RH bulkhead electrical connector, antenna cable and if equipped, the satellite radio antenna and DVD electrical connectors.
28. Remove the 2 bolts and the ground wires.
29. Disconnect the Restraints Control Module (RCM) small electrical connector and detach the 2 wire harness pin-type retainers.
30. Remove the 4 instrument panel center support bracket bolts.
31. NOTICE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required to support the instrument panel when carrying out this step.
NOTE: Remove the bolts from one side completely and support the instrument panel before removing the bolts from the opposite side.
Remove the 3 LH and 3 RH instrument panel side bolts.
32. NOTICE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.
NOTICE: To avoid damaging the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.
NOTICE: Make sure not to damage the RH front door trim panel or the instrument panel when removing the instrument panel from the vehicle.
NOTICE: To avoid damage to the instrument panel, place the instrument panel on a covered bench upside-down.
Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
- Rotate the instrument panel face down and remove through the RH front door opening.
Installation
All vehicles
1. Transfer parts as needed.
2. NOTICE: To avoid damage to the instrument panel, an assistant is required when carrying out this step.
NOTICE: Make sure not to damage the RH front door trim panel or the instrument panel when installing the instrument panel into the vehicle.
NOTICE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are correctly routed when installing the instrument panel or damage to the components may occur.
Install the instrument panel into the vehicle.
3. Install, but do not tighten, the 6 instrument panel side bolts.
4. Install, but do not tighten, the 4 instrument panel center support bolts.
5. Install, but do not tighten, the 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts.
6. Tighten the 6 instrument panel side bolts.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
7. Tighten the 4 instrument panel center support bracket bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
8. Tighten the 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
9. Connect the small RCM electrical connector and attach the wire harness pin-type retainers.
10. Install the ground wires and the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
11. Connect the RH bulkhead electrical connector, antenna cable and if equipped, the satellite radio antenna and DVD electrical connectors.
12. Install the rear footwell duct and the 2 pin-type retainers.
13. Install the LH and RH front carpet sections.
- Install the 2 pin-type retainers.
14. Install the driver footrest pad.
- Press footrest pad downward securing the 2 pin-type retainers.
15. Install the steering column shaft to the steering column.
16. Install a new steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
17. Connect the 2 SJB electrical connectors and the lower bulkhead electrical connector.
18. Connect the LH bulkhead electrical connector.
19. Install the hood release handle.
- Install and tighten the hood release handle bolt.
20. Install the RH and LH front door scuff plate trim panels. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation Service and Repair.
21. Install the RH and LH A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation A-Pillar Trim Panel.
22. Install the floor console. For additional information, refer to Console - Short, Floor Console - Short, Floor or Console - Long, Floor Console - Long, Floor.
23. Install the PCM bracket and nuts.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
24. Install the wire harness retainer onto the PCM bracket stud.
25. Install the PCM. For additional information, refer to Electronic Engine Controls Service and Repair.
26. Install the front seats. Do not prove out at this time. For additional information, refer to Seating Seat - Front.
27. Install the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to Steering Column Removal and Replacement.
28. Install the TXV manifold in the following sequence.
1. Install new O-ring seals.
2. Install and tighten the TXV manifold nut.
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
29. Install the heater hoses onto the heater core.
Vehicles without turbocharger
30. Install the ACL outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to Intake Air Distribution and Filtering Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe.
31. Connect the vacuum hose and the evaporator purge solenoid hose to the upper intake manifold.
All vehicles
32. NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.
Install the strut tower cross brace.
- Install the LH and RH strut upper mount nuts.
- Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
33. Install the vacuum hose clip onto the strut tower cross brace.
34. Charge the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to Climate Control System - General Information and Diagnostics Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging.
35. Fill the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Engine Cooling Cooling System Draining, Filling And Bleeding.
