Instrument Panel Upper Section
Removal and Installation
1. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Console - Short, Floor Console - Short, Floor or Console - Long, Floor Console - Long, Floor.
2. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation A-Pillar Trim Panel.
3. Remove the LH and RH scuff plate trim panels. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation Service and Repair.
4. Tilt the steering wheel to the full downward and fully extended positions.
5. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to Steering Column Removal and Replacement.
6. Remove the steering column multifunction switch. For additional information, refer to Steering Column Switches Steering Column Multifunction Switch.
7. Remove the Instrument Cluster (IC). For additional information, refer to Instrumentation, Message Center, and Warning Chimes Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
8. Remove Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) in the following sequence.
1. Remove the 4 FDIM screws.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector(s).
9. Disconnect the instrument panel top speaker electrical connector.
10. Release the wire harness retainers from the FDIM and Audio Control Module (ACM) openings.
11. Remove the glove compartment in the following sequence.
1. Open the glove compartment and press the 2 upper corner tabs up.
2. Lower the door.
3. Pull door upward, releasing the glove compartment hinge from the instrument panel.
12. Remove the RH instrument panel trim panel.
- Pull the panel toward the rear of the vehicle, releasing the retaining clips.
13. Remove the 5 screws and RH instrument panel trim panel retaining plate.
14. Remove the glove compartment opening trim cover in the following sequence.
1. Remove the 4 screws.
2. Pull the cover toward the rear of the vehicle, releasing the retaining clips.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
15. NOTICE: When prying on a component, a non-marring tool must be used or damage to the component may occur.
With a non-marring tool, pry the 2 instrument panel upper bolt covers upward to release from the defroster grille.
16. Remove the 2 instrument panel upper bolts.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
17. Remove the light sensor. For additional information, refer to Exterior Lighting Service and Repair.
18. If equipped, remove the Head Up Display (HUD) module. For additional information, refer to Collision Avoidance Service and Repair.
19. Remove the hood release handle bolt and position aside the hood release handle.
20. Disconnect the start/stop button electrical connector, if equipped.
21. Through the glove compartment opening, remove the 2 passenger side air bag-to-crossbeam bolts.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
22. Release the passenger side air bag wire harness retainer and disconnect the in-line electrical connector.
23. Remove the 13 instrument panel screws.
- Remove the screw from the LH and RH sides of the instrument panel.
- Remove the 2 glove compartment striker screws.
- Remove the 2 screws above glove compartment opening.
- Remove the 5 screws located in the steering column opening trim panel area.
- Remove the 2 screws located in the IC opening.
24. NOTICE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are not hindered before removing the upper section assembly or damage to the components may occur.
Remove the upper section assembly.
25. NOTICE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and wiring are correctly routed when installing the upper section assembly or damage to the components may occur.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Transfer parts as needed.
- To install, make sure to align the retaining clips to the adjacent retaining clip holes.
