Pinpoint Test X: The Door Ajar Message Center Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the door ajar status from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. The Remote Function Actuator (RFA) monitors the LH front, RH front, LH rear, RH rear door and the liftgate door ajar switch inputs and sends the door ajar status to the SJB over the MS-CAN bus. The SJB controls the courtesy lamps according to the input received and provides the door ajar status for each door to the IPC over the MS-CAN bus. When the IPC receives a message from the SJB that one or more doors are open or ajar, the IPC turns on the door ajar message center warning indicator.
If the door ajar status message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the door ajar message center warning indicator remains in the last indication mode (on/off) based upon the last known good message.
If the door ajar status message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0140:00 and defaults the door ajar message center warning indicator on.
NOTE: If DTC U0140:00 is set in the SJB, other symptoms may also be present in the IPC such as high beam indicator, RH/LH turn indicators, instrument panel backlighting and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Interior lighting concern
- SJB
- IPC
PINPOINT TEST X: THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
-------------------------------------------------
X1 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION
- Open and close each door and the liftgate while monitoring the courtesy lamps.
- Do the courtesy lamps operate correctly with each door and liftgate?
Yes
GO to X2.
No
REFER to Interior Lighting Testing and Inspection.
-------------------------------------------------
X2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE CONTINUOUS IPC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the continuous IPC self-test.
- Is DTC U0140:00 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AT. Pinpoint Tests AT: DTC U0140:00
No
GO to X3.
-------------------------------------------------
X3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the SJB self-test.
- Are any SJB DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart for correct navigation of the DTC.
No
GO to X4.
-------------------------------------------------
X4 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM C175b.
- Ignition ON.
- Monitor the message center display area with the PCM disconnected.
- Does the message center display the powertrain malfunction (wrench) message center warning indicator?
Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules Smart Junction Box (SJB). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.
