Pinpoint Test P: One Turn Signal/Hazard Lamp Is Inoperative/Always On

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 90, Turn Signal/Stop/Hazard Lamps for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

When the Smart Junction Box (SJB) detects the multifunction switch in the LH TURN position, the SJB provides voltage to the LH front and mirror turn lamps.

When the SJB detects the multifunction switch in the RH TURN position, the SJB provides voltage to the RH front and mirror turn lamps.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Mirror turn lamp
- Exterior mirror
- Headlamp assembly
- SJB

For a front turn lamp, INSTALL a new headlamp assembly. REFER to Headlamp Assembly Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

For a mirror turn lamp, GO to P5.

No
REPAIR the ground circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
P5 CHECK THE MIRROR HARNESS FOR AN OPEN

- Check the mirror harness between the side turn lamp connector and the mirror connector for an open.
- Is the mirror harness OK?

Yes
INSTALL a new mirror turn lamp. REFER to Turn Signal Lamp - Outside Rear View Mirror Turn Signal Lamp - Outside Rear View Mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Rear View Mirrors Exterior Mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
P6 REPEAT THE SELF-TEST AND RECHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE TURN LAMP

- Turn the hazard lamps off.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB Self-Test.
- Clear the DTCs and repeat the self-test (required to enable the turn lamp output driver if DTC B106E is present).
- Turn the hazard lamps on.
- For an inoperative front turn lamp, measure the voltage between the LH headlamp C1021-1, circuit CLS21 (BU/GN), harness side and ground; or between the RH headlamp C1041-1, circuit CLS25 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.

- For an inoperative mirror turn lamp, measure the voltage between the LH exterior mirror C516-3, circuit CLS20 (BN/BU), harness side and ground; or between the RH exterior mirror C625-3, circuit CLS24 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.

- Does the voltage alternate from 0 volts to greater than 10 volts?

Yes
For a front turn lamp, INSTALL a new headlamp assembly. REFER to Headlamp Assembly Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

For a side turn lamp, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Rear View Mirrors Exterior Mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to P7.

-------------------------------------------------
P7 CHECK THE TURN LAMP VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Turn the hazard lamps off.
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280f (Front Turn Lamp).
