Blind Spot Module: Service and Repair




Side Obstacle Detection (SOD) Module

NOTE: Left rear quarter panel shown, right side similar. Rear bumper cover removed for clarity.









Removal and Installation

1. NOTE: Module configuration is required when a new Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left (SOD-L) or Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right (SOD-R) is being installed. Upload the SOD-L or the SOD-R module configuration information to the scan tool. For additional information, refer to Programmable Module Installation (PMI) in Module Configuration Programmable Module Installation (PMI).

2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

3. Remove the 4 rear fender splash shield screws. For additional information, refer to Bumpers Bumper - Exploded View, Rear.

4. Gently flex and pry away the rear bumper cover to access the SOD-L or the SOD-R.
- Remove the screw and washer.

- Disconnect the electrical connector.

5. Remove the SOD-L or the SOD-R.

6. If removing the bracket, remove the 2 screws and the bracket.

7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Download the SOD-L or the SOD-R configuration information. For additional information, refer to Module Configuration Testing and Inspection.

- NOTE: When enabling the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(R)) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) system make sure to enable the systems in both the SOD-L and the SOD-R. Failure to do so will result in a mismatch system fault.

Verify in the programmable parameters that the BLIS(R) and CTA system are enabled in the SOD-L and the SOD-R.

- After the SOD-L or the SOD-R is configured, shift the selector lever though all the transaxle gear positions (PRNDL).
