Side Impact Sensor - C-Pillar

Side Impact Sensor - C-Pillar

WARNING: If a vehicle has been in a crash, inspect the restraints control module (RCM) and the impact sensor (if equipped) mounting areas for deformation. If damaged, restore the mounting areas to the original production configuration. A new RCM and sensors must be installed whether or not the air bags have deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTE: Always make sure the correct Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) component is being installed. Parts released for other vehicles may not be compatible even if they appear physically similar. Check the part number listed in the Ford Catalog Advantage(TM) or equivalent to make sure the correct component is being installed. If an incorrect SRS component is installed, DTCs may set.

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.

NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. Depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.

2. Position the second row seats in the flat position and then tilt the second rows seats forward.

3. If installed, remove the luggage cover assembly.

4. Position the third row seats in the flat position.

5. NOTICE: If equipped with a power seat, do not lift the load floor flapper panels too far or damage to the wire harness retainers will occur.

Separate the 2 load floor supports (1 shown).

- Push the load floor support rearward and slightly lift the load floor to disengage.
- For manual seat, fold the 2 load floor flapper panels back on top of the seat.

6. Remove the C-pillar trim panel. For additional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation C-Pillar Trim Panel.

7. NOTICE: To avoid damage to the scuff plate trim panel, remove any retaining clips from the body and attach them to the scuff plate trim panel before installing.

NOTICE: To avoid damage to the scuff plate trim panel, remove the S-clips from the scuff plate trim panel and attach them to the door flange in the body sheet metal notches.

Remove the rear door scuff plate trim panel.

- Using a flat trim tool, lift upward on the scuff plate trim panel to release the retaining clips.

8. Remove the quarter trim panel retaining screw.

9. Pull the quarter trim panel out at the front.

10. Disconnect the side impact sensor electrical connector.

11. Remove the bolt and side impact sensor.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

12. WARNING: Always tighten the fasteners of the restraints control module (RCM) and impact sensor (if equipped) to the specified torque. Failure to do so may result in incorrect restraint system operation, which increases the risk of personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTICE: To avoid damage to the quarter trim panels, remove any retaining clips from the body and attach them to the quarter trim panels before installing.

NOTE: Make sure the C-pillar and side impact sensor mating surfaces are clean and free of foreign material.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

13. Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
