Pinpoint Test J: Power Liftgate Closes (With a Continuous Chime) Immediately After A Power Open
Power Liftgate
Pinpoint Test J: The Power Liftgate Does Not Operate Correctly - Closes (With a Continuous Chime) Immediately After A Power Open
Normal Operation
After the Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) has performed a power open operation, voltage is removed from the drive motor. The LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) briefly continues to monitor the position of the liftgate. If excessive movement in the closed direction is detected, voltage is reapplied to the motor and a continuous chime is initiated and remains on as the liftgate is automatically closed.
If the excessive closing movement is detected on 11 successive power open requests, DTC B201A sets and power liftgate operation is disabled until the DTC is cleared.
- DTC B201A (Power System Disabled Due to High Manual Closing Speed)- a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module) detects excessive closing movement on 11 successive power open requests. When DTC B201A sets, power liftgate operation is disabled until the DTC is cleared.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Excessive weight, such as snow, ice or a bicycle rack, on the liftgate
- Power liftgate full open position not learned correctly during power liftgate initialization procedure
- Liftgate assist cylinders
- LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module)
PINPOINT TEST J : THE POWER LIFTGATE DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - CLOSES (WITH A CONTINUOUS CHIME) IMMEDIATELY AFTER A POWER OPEN
J1 CHECK THE LIFTGATE ASSIST CYLINDERS
- Verify there is no excessive weight on the liftgate, such as snow, ice or a bicycle rack.
- Turn the power liftgate off (disable) from the message center.
- Operate the liftgate manually to verify the liftgate assist cylinders hold the liftgate open.
Did the liftgate assist cylinders hold the liftgate open correctly?
Yes
GO to J2.
No
INSTALL new liftgate assist cylinders. CLEAR the DTCs. INITIALIZE the power liftgate. REFER to Power Liftgate Initialization Programming and Relearning. TEST the system for normal operation.
J2 CHECK THE POWER LIFTGATE OPERATION
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Clear Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) DTCs.
- Initialize the power liftgate. Refer to Power Liftgate Initialization Programming and Relearning.
- Operate the power liftgate from a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
Does the liftgate close with a continuous chime immediately after a power open?
Yes
INSTALL a new LTM (Liftgate/Trunk Module). REFER to Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating normal at this time. The concern may have been caused by an improperly initialized power liftgate or previous weight on the liftgate.
