Pinpoint Test J: The Memory Seat Does Not Operate Correctly - Does Not Operate Using the Memory SET Switch

Normal Operation

When the memory SET switch is activated, it supplies a ground signal to the Driver Seat Module (DSM) to initiate a memory SET or recall command. Memory button 1 and memory button 2 each have separate circuits to the DSM (Driver Seat Module).

The DSM (Driver Seat Module) supplies a shared signal feed circuit to each position sensor. Each position sensor sends a signal pulse back to the DSM (Driver Seat Module) to monitor the position of the seat track and seat recliner. The DSM (Driver Seat Module) stores the sensor position data when a SET command is received and uses this information to return the seat to the stored position when a recall command is received.

When a recall command is initiated, the DSM (Driver Seat Module) supplies voltage and ground to the seat track motors and seat recliner motor to move the seat to the stored position. For information on programming memory positions or recalling a stored memory position, refer to Memory Position Programming Programming and Relearning.

The following pinpoint test diagnoses a memory seat that does not operate correctly using the memory SET switch. If the memory seat does not move in all directions using the seat control switch, GO to Pinpoint Test I. Pinpoint Test I: Memory Seat Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly - Does Not Operate Horizontally/Vertically/Recline

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Memory SET switch

- Missing Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) status information:
- ignition status

- gear selector position

- RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter

- Seat track

- Power seat motor

- DSM (Driver Seat Module)

PINPOINT TEST J : THE MEMORY SEAT DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - DOES NOT OPERATE USING THE MEMORY SET SWITCH

NOTE: If a seat equipped with a seat mounted side air bag is being serviced, the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be depowered. Refer to Restraints and Safety Systems &/or Air Bag Systems.

NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault.

NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

NOTE: Verify good battery condition before diagnosing the memory seat system. Poor battery condition may interfere with memory seat operation, even if vehicle starting is possible.
