Pinpoint Test A: The Memory Mirror is Inoperative
Normal Operation
Under normal operation, the exterior mirror control switch receives voltage from Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse 13 (5A) through circuit SBP13 (GY/RD) and ground from circuit GD133 (BK). The exterior mirror control switch uses circuits CPM16 (BN/BU), CPM17 (BU/GN), CPM20 (BN/WH), CPM21 (YE/VT) and CPM23 (GY) to send input signals to the Driver Door Module (DDM). The DDM (Driver Door Module) controls the LH exterior mirror motor movement by supplying the appropriate voltage and ground to circuits RPM05 (VT/GN), CPM28 (BU/BN) and CPM29 (GN). The DDM (Driver Door Module) communicates with the Driver Seat Module (DSM) through the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) whenever the DDM (Driver Door Module) receives an input signal from the exterior mirror control switch for the RH mirror. The DSM (Driver Seat Module) controls the RH exterior mirror motor movement by supplying the appropriate voltage and ground to circuits CPM31 (YE/GY)/CPM06 (GN/WH), CPM33 (WH/VT) and CPM34 (WH/BN).
The memory mirror system uses feedback potentiometers, located in the LH and RH exterior mirror motors, in order to track the movement and position of the LH and RH exterior mirror motors. The DDM (Driver Door Module) supplies the LH exterior mirror feedback potentiometer reference voltage through circuit LPM30 (GY/VT) and ground through circuit RPM30 (YE). The DSM (Driver Seat Module) supplies the RH exterior mirror feedback potentiometer reference voltage through circuit LPM30 (GY/VT)/LPM12 (BU/GY) and ground through circuit RPM30 (YE)/RPM12 (VT/WH). The DDM (Driver Door Module) receives feedback from the LH exterior mirror feedback potentiometer through left/right circuit VPM35 (YE/BU) and up/down circuit VPM36 (BN/YE). The DSM (Driver Seat Module) receives feedback from the RH exterior mirror feedback potentiometer through left/right circuit VPM37 (BU/OG) and up/down circuit VPM38 (BN/GN).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- DDM (Driver Door Module)
- DSM (Driver Seat Module)
- Exterior mirror motor
- Exterior mirror
- Exterior mirror control switch
PINPOINT TEST A : THE MEMORY MIRROR IS INOPERATIVE
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
A18 CHECK THE RH EXTERIOR MIRROR FOR VOLTAGE FROM THE DSM (Driver Seat Module)
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: RH Exterior Mirror C625.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: DSM (Driver Seat Module) DataLogger.
- DTC B1669: Measure the voltage between ground and RH exterior mirror:
- C625-1, circuit CPM34 (WH/BN), harness side while toggling the RH exterior mirror DSM (Driver Seat Module) PID PR_UP to On.
- C625-2, circuit CPM06 (GN/WH), harness side while toggling the RH exterior mirror DSM (Driver Seat Module) PID PR_DOWN to On.
- DTC B1670: Measure the voltage between ground and RH exterior mirror:
- C625-2, circuit CPM06 (GN/WH), harness side while toggling the RH exterior mirror DSM (Driver Seat Module) PID PR_LEFT to On.
- C625-4, circuit CPM33 (WH/VT), harness side while toggling the RH exterior mirror DSM (Driver Seat Module) PID PR_RIGHT to On.
Do the voltages momentarily change from 0 volt to greater than 10 volts when the active command is toggled On?
Yes
CHECK the RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new RH exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new RH exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
GO to A19.
A19 CHECK CIRCUITS CPM06 (GN/WH), CPM31 (YE/GY), CPM33 (WH/VT) AND CPM34 (WH/BN) FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341D.
- Measure the resistance between RH exterior mirror C625, harness side and DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341D, harness side using the following chart:

Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to A31.
No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A20 CHECK CIRCUITS CPM16 (BN/BU), CPM17 (BU/GN), CPM20 (BN/WH) AND CPM21 (YE/VT) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C527.
- Disconnect: DDM (Driver Door Module) C501B.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between ground and exterior mirror control switch:
- C527-2, circuit CPM21 (YE/VT), harness side.
- C527-5, circuit CPM17 (BU/GN), harness side.
- C527-7, circuit CPM20 (BN/WH), harness side.
- C527-8, circuit CPM16 (BN/BU), harness side.
Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
GO to A32.
A21 CHECK CIRCUITS CPM05 (VT/GN), CPM28 (BU/BN) AND CPM29 (GN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LH Exterior Mirror C516.
- Disconnect: DDM (Driver Door Module) C501A.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between ground and DDM (Driver Door Module) :
- C501A-2, circuit RPM05 (VT/GN), harness side.
- C501A-4, circuit CPM29 (GN), harness side.
- C501A-5, circuit CPM28 (BU/BN), harness side.
Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
GO to A22.
A22 CHECK CIRCUITS RPM05 (VT/GN), CPM28 (BU/BN) AND CPM29 (GN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between ground and DDM (Driver Door Module) :
- C501A-2, circuit RPM05 (VT/GN), harness side.
- C501A-4, circuit CPM29 (GN), harness side.
- C501A-5, circuit CPM28 (BU/BN), harness side.
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
CHECK the LH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A23 CHECK CIRCUITS CPM31 (YE/GY), CPM33 (WH/VT) AND CPM34 (WH/BN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: RH Exterior Mirror C625.
- Disconnect: DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341D.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between ground and DSM (Driver Seat Module) :
- C341D-6, circuit CPM33 (WH/VT), harness side.
- C341D-7, circuit CPM34 (WH/BN), harness side.
- C341D-8, circuit CPM31 (YE/GY), harness side.
Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
GO to A24.
A24 CHECK CIRCUITS CPM31 (YE/GY), CPM33 (WH/VT) AND CPM34 (WH/BN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between ground and DSM (Driver Seat Module) :
- C341D-6, circuit CPM33 (YE/WH), harness side.
- C341D-7, circuit CPM34 (WH/BN), harness side.
- C341D-8, circuit CPM31 (YE/GY), harness side.
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
CHECK the RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A25 CHECK CIRCUITS VPM37 (BU/OG) AND VPM38 (BN/GN) FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: RH Exterior Mirror C625.
- Disconnect: DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341D.
- Measure the resistance between DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341D, harness side and exterior mirror C625, harness side using the following chart:

Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to A26.
No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A26 CHECK CIRCUITS VPM37 (BU/OG) AND VPM38 (BN/GN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and RH exterior mirror:
- DTC B2312:C625-11, circuit VPM37 (BU/OG), harness side.
- DTC B2316:C625-9, circuit VPM38 (BN/GN), harness side.
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
CHECK the RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A27 CHECK CIRCUITS VPM37 (BU/OG) AND VPM38 (BN/GN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: RH Exterior Mirror C625.
- Disconnect: DSM (Driver Seat Module) C341D.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between ground and RH exterior mirror:
- DTC B2314:C625-11, circuit VPM37 (BU/OG), harness side.
- DTC B2318:C625-9, circuit VPM38 (BN/GN), harness side.
Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
CHECK the RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A28 CHECK CIRCUITS VPM35 (YE/BU) AND VPM36 (BN/YE) FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LH Exterior Mirror C516.
- Disconnect: DDM (Driver Door Module) C501B.
- Measure the resistance between DDM (Driver Door Module) C501B, harness side and exterior mirror C516, harness side using the following chart:
DTC DDM (Driver Door Module) Circuit LH Exterior Mirror B2320 C501B-2 VPM35 (YE/BU) C516-11 B2324 C501B-1 VPM36 (BN/YE) C516-9
Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to A29.
No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A29 CHECK CIRCUITS VPM35 (YE/BU) AND VPM36 (BN/YE) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and LH exterior mirror:
- DTC B2320:C516-11, circuit VPM35 (YE/BU), harness side.
- DTC B2324:C516-9, circuit VPM36 (BN/YE), harness side.
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
CHECK the LH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A30 CHECK CIRCUITS VPM35 (YE/BU) AND VPM36 (BN/YE) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: LH Exterior Mirror C516.
- Disconnect: DDM (Driver Door Module) C501B.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between ground and LH exterior mirror:
- DTC B2322:C516-11, circuit VPM35 (YE/BU), harness side.
- DTC B2326:C516-9, circuit VPM36 (BN/YE), harness side.
Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
CHECK the LH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. REFER to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. REFER to Exterior Mirror Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A31 CHECK THE DSM (Driver Seat Module) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Disconnect all DSM (Driver Seat Module) connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect all DSM (Driver Seat Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new DSM (Driver Seat Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
A32 CHECK THE DDM (Driver Door Module) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Disconnect all DDM (Driver Door Module) connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect all DDM (Driver Door Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new DDM (Driver Door Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
