Pinpoint Test BB: DTC B111C

Normal Operation

The Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2 (PCSM-2) monitors the RH rear seat Thermo-Electric Device (TED) circuits. If an open on any of these circuits is detected, the DTC will be set.

- DTC B111C (Passenger Thermo-Electric Driver Open Load)- If PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2) outputs to the RH rear seat backrest or cushion TED (Thermo-Electric Device) (circuit pins A, B, C or D at the PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2) connector) or any components within these circuit loops are open, disconnected or a TED (Thermo-Electric Device) resistance greater than 90,000 ohms is sensed, the PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2) continues normal operation and sets this DTC.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- TED (Thermo-Electric Device) assembly

- PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2)

PINPOINT TEST BB : DTC B111C

NOTICE: When taking measurements at Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2 (PCSM-2) harness connectors, do not insert the electrical probes into the female connector pins. Inserting the probes into connector pins can cause intermittent or open electrical connections after reassembly resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and system failure. Touching the tip of these connector pins is recommended instead.

BB1 CHECK TED (Thermo-Electric Device) CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2) C3365A.

- Disconnect: Cushion TED (Thermo-Electric Device) C3359.

- Disconnect: Backrest TED (Thermo-Electric Device) C3361.

- Measure the resistance between PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2) C3365A, harness side and cushion TED (Thermo-Electric Device) C3359, harness side; and between PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2) C3365A, harness side and backrest TED (Thermo-Electric Device) C3361, harness side using the following chart:

PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2) Connector-Pin Circuit TED (Thermo-Electric Device) Connector-Pin C3365A-A CHS43 (GY/BU) C3359-1 C3365A-B RHS43 (VT/GY) C3359-3 C3365A-C CHS44 (GN/VT) C3361-1 C3365A-D RHS44 (BU/WH) C3361-3

Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to BB2.

No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

BB2 CHECK TED (Thermo-Electric Device) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2) C3365A, harness side and ground using the following chart:

Connector-Pin Circuit C3365A-A CHS43 (GY/BU) C3365A-B RHS43 (VT/GY) C3365A-C CHS44 (GN/VT) C3365A-D RHS44 (BU/WH)

Is voltage present on any circuits?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
GO to BB3.

BB3 CHECK THE BACKREST TED (Thermo-Electric Device) AND CUSHION TED (Thermo-Electric Device) RESISTANCE

- Ignition OFF.

- Measure the resistance between:
- backrest TED (Thermo-Electric Device) C3361 pin 1 and pin 3, component side.

- cushion TED (Thermo-Electric Device) C3359 pin 1 and pin 3, component side.

Are the resistances between 0.9 and 10 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL a new PCSM-2 (Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2). REFER to Passenger Climate - Controlled Seat Module (PCSM-2) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
If backrest TED (Thermo-Electric Device) resistance is not between 0.9 and 10 ohms, INSTALL a new backrest TED (Thermo-Electric Device). REFER to Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

If cushion TED (Thermo-Electric Device) resistance is not between 0.9 and 10 ohms, INSTALL a new cushion TED (Thermo-Electric Device). REFER to Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
