Pinpoint Test - Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)

Pinpoint Test A: The Air Bag Warning Indicator is Illuminated Continuously

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 46, Supplemental Restraint System for schematic and connector information. [1][2]Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation
During normal operation, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) will illuminate the air bag warning indicator continuously for 6 seconds. If the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is fault free, the air bag warning indicator will turn off and remain off. If a fault is detected in the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) , the air bag warning indicator will illuminate and remain illuminated for the rest of the ignition cycle until the fault is no longer detected. The Restraints Control Module (RCM) communicates to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) via the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) will illuminate the air bag warning indicator based on messaging from the RCM (Restraints Control Module) or if there is no communication between the RCM (Restraints Control Module) and IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
- RCM (Restraints Control Module)
