DESCRIPTION
If a customer complains of a vibration or resonance noise inside the cab of a 1986-87 B2000/1987 B2200 at idle, follow the repair procedure shown below.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
I. IDLE SPEED AND IDLE-UP ADJUSTMENT
Adjust the idle speed and idle-up according to the instructions shown in the appropriate workshop manual.
NOTE:
Transmission in neutral or "P" range.
Idle Speed: Idle-Up:
B2000: 800 - 850 rpm (page 4-60) B2000 with A/C: 1,300-1,500 rpm (page 4-62)
B2200: 800 - 850 rpm (page 4B-79) B2200 with A/T: 920-970 rpm (page 4B-81)
B2200 with A/C: 1,300-1,500 rpm (page 4B-81) B2200 with A/T & A/C: 1,300-1,500 rpm (page 4B-82)
II. ENGINE MOUNTS
Replace the engine mounts with the modified mounts.
III. DYNAMIC DAMPER
If the vibration is not reduced to an acceptable level, install the dynamic damper kit (except Cab Plus vehicles).
1. Remove the carpet on the inside rear of the cab.
2. From the interior of the cab, locate bracket "A" on the recess in the center of the cab as shown. Mark the location of the 13 holes.
3. Remove the bolts that secure the bed to the frame (short bed - 6 bolts, long bed - 8 bolts).
4. Disconnect the connectors to the taillights and license plate light.
5. Disconnect the fuel filler hose.
6. Slide the bed rearward approximately 4 inches.
7. Drill the holes using a 6.5 mm (17/64 in) drill bit.
8. Install bracket "A" to the interior of the cab.
NOTE:
Apply silicone sealant to the bolts and install the bolts from the inside of the cab.
9. Install bracket "B" to exterior of the cab.
10. Install the dynamic damper to bracket "B".
NOTE:
Check that the dynamic damper does not contact the cab.
11. Reinstall the carpet to the inside of the cab. Reinstall the bed.
