Table and Procedures:

DESCRIPTION

In order to improve the driveability, such as hesitation while accelerating or jerking after deceleration, a repair procedure and modified parts have been established. Please refer to the following table and procedures and use the correct parts because each area requires a different procedure and parts.

NOTE:

The * mark indicates that the modified HAC kit should be installed only if a customer complains about driveability at high altitude. Otherwise it is not necessary to install the modified HAC kit.

The ** mark shows that the modified HAC kit has been already installed in production.

The *** mark shows that the modified control unit has been already installed in production.

Primary Main Air Bleed:

The detailed repair procedures are as follows:

1. Replacing Primary Main Air Bleed #60 (P/N; FE71 23 349)

Remove the air cleaner and air horn from the carburetor main body. Replace the primary main air bleed (#50) with the modified one (#60).

Vacuum Tubes:

b. Install the vacuum tubes and secure them with tie-wraps as shown in the figure below.
NOTE:
Do not use the vehicle emission control information label contained in the HAC kit for the vehicles in California, Federal (except high altitude areas) and Canada. The emission label can be used only for Federal high altitude areas.

Installing Joint:

4. Installing Joint (P/N; F807 13 945)

Remove and discard the check valve which is installed between the intake manifold and the EGR duty solenoid valve then install the joint in place of the check valve.

Replacing Modified Control Unit:

5. Replacing Modified Control Unit (P/N; FE85 18 881B)

The modified control unit has been installed since the production date of March, 1985. If the vehicle being checked is produced prior to the VIN listed below, replace the control unit with the modified one (FE85B).
VIN OF PRODUCTION CHANGE

IDLE ADJUSTMENT:

IDLE ADJUSTMENT

1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

2. Attach a tachometer.

3. Make sure that all electrical loads (such as cooling fan, heater blower motor, headlights, etc.) are off.

4. Turn TAS to set idle rpm as follows.

(NOTE: Do not turn MAS for adjustment)
