REAR SHAFT NUT WRENCH:
DESCRIPTION
The retainer for the bearing on the rear axle shaft has been changed from a collar to a lock nut.
A rear shaft nut wrench has been established as a special tool for removing and installing to torque specification the rear axle shaft nut on the 1986 B2000 rear axle.

Rear Shaft Nut Wrench (49 0603 635) and Rear Shaft Holder (49 S120 645A):
REPAIR PROCEDURE
DISASSEMBLY
1. Flatten the tab of the locking washer.
2. Attach the rear shaft nut wrench (49 0603 635) and rear shaft holder (49 S120 645A).
3. Remove the lock nut and washer from the axle shaft.
CAUTION:
Turn the left wheel lock nut clockwise to loosen it.
Rear Shaft Bearing Puller (49 S120 520A):
4. Remove the wheel hub assembly by using the rear shaft bearing puller (49 S120 520A).
5. Remove the bearing and oil seal from the wheel hub.
6. Tap lightly with a round bar to force out the outer race.
7. Remove the spacer from the axle shaft.
ASSEMBLY:
ASSEMBLY
1. Press the oil seal and bearing outer race into the wheel hub by using a suitable piece of pipe and a press.
Grease Application:
2. Liberally coat the places indicated by oblique lines in the figure with grease (lithium base, NLGI No.2).
Wheel Hub and Spacer:
3. Install the backing plate bolts to the wheel hub.
4. Install the wheel hub and spacer on the axle shaft.
Attachment (49 S120 748):
5. Using the attachment (49 S120 748), press the wheel bearing onto the axle shaft.
6. Install the lock washer and lock nut to the axle shaft.
