Fig. 10 Transmission Removal Exploded View:
Refer to Fig. 10, when replacing transmission.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Loosen oil pan attaching bolts and drain fluid into a suitable container.
4. Remove selector knob, then the console box.
5. Remove insulator plate and boot, then the 4 X 4 shift lever.
6. Remove undercover, then the exhaust pipe.
7. Make alignment marks to front and rear propeller shafts, then remove shafts.
8. Remove speedometer cable, then the selector cable.
9. Remove No. 2 crossmember, then the torque converter cover.
10. Remove torque converter attaching bolts, then the transmission attaching bolts.
11. Remove oil pipe connector and bracket, then the crossmember.
12. Disconnect all electrical connector, then remove oil level gauge and pipe.
13. Remove transmission assembly.
14. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Torque torque converter bolts to 27-40 ft. lbs.
b. Torque crossmember bolts to 23-34 ft. lbs.
c. Realign marks on propeller shafts.
