DESCRIPTION

The clutch hub assembly and synchronizer rings have been modified to improve the shift quality of the R-type transmission. If your customer reports hard shifting after cold weather starts, replacement synchronizer rings and clutch hub assemblies may be necessary.

NOTE:
^ Before repairing, check the vehicle you are servicing to determine transmission type. Figure 1. The R-Type transmission is a manual transmission with a removable oil pan.
^ Follow the Repair Procedure outlined in this bulletin for proper parts identification and installation.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Refer to the Parts Information table for matching clutch hub assemblies to synchronizer rings.

2. Use the illustrations shown to help you identify synchronizer rings and clutch hub assemblies.

3. Install new clutch hub assemblies and synchronizer rings according to Workshop Manual procedures.

NOTE:
The synchronizer rings are very similar in design. Rings are not marked and can be easily mixed up. Take care to keep the synchronizer rings in the original package until installation is required.

NOTE:
This repair procedure requires clutch hub assembly replacement. Clutch hub-to-clutch hub sleeve assembly requires additional steps not covered in this bulletin. Refer to the Workshop Manual for instruction.

Use the illustrations as shown to correctly match clutch hubs and synchronizer rings and to install the assemblies in the proper direction.

NOTE:
After matching synchronizer rings with clutch hub assemblies, install the synchronizer rings on the clutch hub assembly by lining up the three keyways on the clutch hub assembly with the keyway notch on the synchronizer ring.
