SERVICE BUMPER SPECIFICATION CHANGE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

DESCRIPTION

As of March, 2009 the specification of service bumpers supplied from Mazda Corporation (MC) is changing.

Service bumpers will no longer be supplied with a primer coating. Non-primered bumpers will be supplied once the current inventory of primer coated bumpers is depleted.

In order to avoid paint adhesion issues such as paint peeling and lifting, it is necessary to apply primer to the bumper before applying the body color. For primer specifications, please consult with your local paint supplier.

To distinguish a primer coated bumper from a non-primer coated bumper, check the last two digits of the part number (Example: AA or blank = primer coated bumper; BB = non-primer coated bumper).

The following cautionary notice will be supplied with each non-primered bumper:

CAUTION:
^ This bumper is a non-primered bumper (material: PP), be sure to apply a primer coat before applying the color coat.

^ The paint will peel and lift without applying the primer first.

^ The surface of some bumpers are polished with sand paper to remove burrs and pin holes. Use the bumper as is; the burrs and pins holes will be hidden by the color coat.
