Piston & Piston Ring

1. Check piston for cracking, breaking, heat damage or wear. Replace piston as required. Pistons are available in .010 inch (.25mm) and .020 inch (.50mm) oversize.
2. Check piston rings for excessive wear and damage. Replace rings as required.
3. Measure clearance between piston ring grooves and piston ring using a suitable feeler gauge. If clearance exceeds .006 inch (.15mm), replace piston or rings as required.
4. Install piston ring into cylinder bore by hand and use the piston to push it to the bottom of ring travel. Using a suitable feeler gauge, measure piston ring end gap clearance. If end gap is more than .039 inch (1.0mm), replace piston ring.
