Subject:

ENGINE IDLE (NOISE) DROAN/MOAN/VIBRATION IN CAB

BULLETIN NOTE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2007-2009 B2300 equipped with automatic transmission

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit an engine droan/moan/vibration at idle in the cab.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Remove the three (3) rear pushpins and position the right inner fender splash shield aside.

3. Loosen the two (2) right hand (RH) and two (2) left hand (LH) engine support insulator upper nuts to allow 1/4" (6 mm) to 1/2" (12 mm) clearance between nut and mount plate.

4. Install Exhaust Damper following instructions included in the damper installation kit.

5. Loosen the two (2) exhaust downpipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts. Allow 1/4" (6 mm) to 1/2" (12 mm) clearance of nut surface.

6. Loosen the joint clamp at the muffler inlet pipe.

7. Loosen the two (2) transmission mount bolts and two (2) isolator-to-transmission bolts and allow 1/4" (6 mm) to 1/2" (12 mm) clearance.

8. From passenger side of engine, grab and shake the engine assembly to allow the engine mounts to seek a neutral position.

9. From the driver side of engine, grab and shake the engine assembly to allow the engine mounts to seek a neutral position.

10. Install the two (2) LH and two (2) RH engine support insulator4o-engine support bracket nuts. Tighten to 75 lb-ft (102 N.m).

11. Position the right inner fender splash shield and install the three (3) rear pushpins.

12. Shake the exhaust system until it seeks a neutral position.

13. Tighten the transmission mount and the isolator-to-transmission bolts. Tighten to 66 lb-ft (90 N.m).

14. Tighten the upper exhaust downpipe-to-exhaust manifold nut until partially tight. Tighten the lower manifold nut until completely tight. Complete the tightening process on the upper manifold nut to the specified torque. Tighten both nuts to 30 lb-ft (40 N.m).

15. Tighten the joint clamp at the muffler inlet pipe. Tighten to 30 lb-ft (40 N.m).

16. Start engine and check the exhaust system for leaks.

17. Reboot the IDS to clear memory before reprogramming.

18. Using IDS and higher software, reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration (refer to "Calibration Information" table) by following the Module Reprogramming" procedure. This new calibration is not included in the VCM DVD.

NOTE:

^ Always update the IDS tool first, then follow on-screen instructions to download the needed calibration file for PCM reprogramming.

^ It is not necessary to remove any fuses or relays during PCM reprogramming when the IDS screen prompts you to do so. You may accidentally stop power to one of the PCM terminals and cause the PCM to be blanked, or you may receive error messages during the IDS reprogramming procedure.

^ IDS shows the calibration part numbers after programming the PCM.

^ Please be aware that PCM calibration part numbers and file names listed in any Service Bulletin may change due to future releases of IDS software, and additional revisions made to those calibrations for service related concerns.

^ When reprogramming a PCM, IDS will always display the latest" calibration P/N available for that vehicle. If any calibration has been revised/updated to contain new information for a new service concern/issue, it will also contain all previously released calibrations.

^ When performing this procedure, we recommend that a battery charger be installed on the vehicle battery and turned ON to a maximum charge of no more than 20 AMPS to keep the vehicle battery up to capacity. If you exceed 20 AMPS, it could damage the VCM.

19. After performing the PCM reprogramming procedure, verify the repair by starting the engine and making sure there are no MIL illumination or abnormal warning lights present.

NOTE:

^ If any DTCs should remain after performing DTC erase, diagnose the DTCs according to the appropriate Troubleshooting section of the Workshop Manual.

^ After PCM reprogramming, it is no longer necessary to road test the vehicle to relearn" KAM (Keep Alive Memory).
