Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair

PINION SEAL FRONT REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

1. Remove the companion flange.
2. Use impact slide hammer SST and converter seal remover SST to remove the pinion seal.





3. Lubricate the pinion seal with axle lubricant meeting specification API Service GL-5.

Note:
- Check the splines on the pinion stem to be sure they are free of burrs. If burrs are evident, remove them with a fine crocus cloth. Work in a rotating motion to wipe the pinion clean.

4. Clean the pinion seal bore and use pinion seal replacer SST to install the pinion seal.





5. Install the companion flange.
