Front Suspension - Stabilizer Bar Removal/Installation




STABILIZER BAR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

CAUTION:Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. New parts must be installed with the same part numbers or equivalent part, if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.

CAUTION:Do not use power tools to remove or install the stabilizer bar link nuts. Damage to the stabilizer bar link ball joints and boots may occur.

CAUTION:Do not hold the stabilizer bar link boot with any tool or damage to the boot may occur.
NOTE:The stabilizer bar links are designed with low friction ball joints that have a low breakaway torque.
NOTE:When installing the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar, make sure the stabilizer bar is perpendicular to the stabilizer link when tightening the link nut or the link nut may not seat correctly.
1. Remove the stabilizer bar bushings. See Service and Repair.

2. Remove the wheel and tire. See Service and Repair.

NOTE:Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the ball stud from turning while removing or installing the stabilizer link nut.
3. Remove and discard the 2 lower stabilizer bar link nuts.

- To install, tighten the new nuts to 63 Nm {6.4 kgf-m, 46 ft-lbf}.

NOTE:Remove the stabilizer bar through the LH wheel opening.
4. Remove the stabilizer bar.

5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
