Fig. 7 Disabling vacuum advance:

1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn all electric loads OFF.
3. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the vacuum control unit and plug them Fig. 7.
4. connect a tachometer and check the idle speed. Set it to specified speed if necessary.

IDLE SPEED: 750-850 rpm (MTX) 900-1,000 rpm (ATX)

5. Disconnect the black connector at the distributor Fig. 8.
6. Connect a timing light.

7. With the timing light, check the ignition timing Fig. 9.

INITIAL IGNITION TIMING: 1°- 3° BTDC.



8. If the ignition timing is not within specification, loosen the distributor body installation bolts and adjust the ignition timing by turning the body.
9. Reconnect the vacuum hoses to the vacuum control unit and check the ignition timing.

IGNITION TIMING: 7° BTDC.

10. Reconnect the black connector and remove the testers.
