Mixture Control Solenoid - Slow Cut: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 11 Connecting dwellmeter.:

1. Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached and continue to run at idle.
2. Connect dwellmeter to A/F checking connector (BrY), Fig. 1. If dwellmeter indicates 20°---70°, proceed to step 3. If dwell is not within specifications, check oxygen sensor, control unit and feedback system wiring harness, then adjust using mixture adjusting screw and proceed to step 3.

Fig. 12 Grounding A/F solenoid.:

3. Ground A/F checking connector (BrY) with a suitable jumper wire and ensure engine speed drops. If engine speed does not drop, clean A/F solenoid valve or carburetor or replace air horn assembly, as necessary. When cleaning, do not submerge components in solvent. Clean by using gasoline and blowing out with compressed air. The A/F solenoid is integral with the air horn and must be replaced as an assembly, if necessary.
1. Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached.
2. Disconnect the neutral switch located on the transmission.
3. Connect a voltmeter to Lg connector terminal.
4. Connect a tachometer.
5. Voltmeter should indicate 1.5 volts at 2,000 rpm or lower and approx. 12 volts momentarily when suddenly decelerating from 3,000 RPM.
6. If voltage readings are not as specified, check deceleration vacuum switch and slow cut fuel system wiring. Also check feedback control unit.
