DESCRIPTION
If you encounter a 1986-87 RX-7 that is difficult to fuel or takes a long time to fill with fuel, the problem may be due to a collapsed or improperly installed filler pipe hose. If so, replace the filler pipe hose according to the repair procedure shown below.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
Perform this repair procedure only if the fuel gauge shows 3/4 or less fuel and the vehicle is on a level surface; if not, drain the fuel into a suitable closed container. Make sure that no electrical spark or combustion source is near the work area.
1. Remove the right rear silencer and the insulator between the silencer and body.
2. Open the fuel filler lid and remove the filler pipe mounting bolts (A)
3. Remove bolt (B) and remove the ground wire.
4. Remove bolts (C) securing the filler pipe hose.
5. Loosen clamps (D) and disconnect the breather hose from the pipe.
6. Loosen clamp (E) and disconnect the filler pipe hose from the filler pipe No. 2.
CAUTION:
Some residual fuel may remain in the filler pipe hose.
7. Loosen clamp (F) and disconnect the filler pipe hose from the filler pipe.
8. Install a new filler pipe hose in the reverse order of disassembly.
NOTE:
Install the filler pipe hose on the filler pipe so that the overlap length is approximately 50 mm (2 in).
