Air Injection: Testing and Inspection
Fig. 1 Testing reed valves B & C.:
1. Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached and continue to run at idle.
2. Remove air cleaner cover and ensure air is drawn into inlet port of reed valves B and C, Fig. 1, when engine speed is increased to 1500 RPM.
3. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM and ensure there is no exhaust gas leakage from air inlet port. If leakage is evident, replace reed valve.
4. Disconnect and plug vacuum hose from No. 2 air control valve.
5. Increase engine speed to 1500 RPM and ensure air is drawn into reed valve A bottom inlet port. If air is not drawn in, check No. 1 air control valve and reed valve.
6. Disconnect and plug vacuum hose from No. 1 air control valve.
7. Increase engine speed to 1500 RPM, and ensure air is drawn into reed valve A side inlet port. If air is not drawn in, check No. 2 air control valve and reed valve.
8. Stop engine and disconnect electrical connector from water temperature switch.
9. Run engine at idle and ensure no vacuum exists at No. 2 air control vacuum hose, then increase engine speed to 1500 RPM and ensure vacuum is present. If vacuum is not as specified, check ACV solenoid valve.
10. Reconnect vacuum hoses and electrical connector.
