EC-AT PROBLEMS WITH AFTERMARKET PARTS
DESCRIPTION
Connecting aftermarket accessories, such as automatic cruise control or vehicle theft deterrent systems to the control unit of Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission (EC-AT) vehicles may cause erratic transmission behavior ranging from shift slippage to shift shock. This may also apply if the aftermarket parts are connected into the support systems as well (i.e. fuel, speed, etc.).
To avoid unnecessary diagnostic time and costly repairs, first check that aftermarket accessories are not connected to any part of the A/T wiring. If you find an aftermarket accessory is connected to the wiring of the A/T, disconnect it and rewire the accessory to an area other than that for the A/T or support systems before beginning diagnostics on a transmission.
