Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Check the condition of the engine (spark plugs, leaks in hoses, etc.).
2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.
3. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

Test Connectors:

Fig. 13 Distributor Bolts And Vacuum Hoses:

4. Connect a tachometer and a timing light to engine (white check connector for tachometer).
5. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the distributor vacuum control unit and plug the hoses.
6. Ground the test connector (green: 1-pin) with a jumper wire.
7. Check that the idle speed is within specification.

Idle speed: 750 ± 20 rpm (M/T: neutral)
770 ± 20 rpm (A/T: P range)

8. If the idle speed is not within specifications, adjust it. (Refer to IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT)

Timing Mark:

9. Check that the timing mark (YELLOW) on the crankshaft pulley and the mark on the timing belt cover are aligned.

Ignition timing: 5 ± 1 ° BTDC

10. If the ignition timing is not within specifications, loosen the distributor lock bolts and rotate the distributor housing to adjust.
11. Tighten the distributor lock bolts to the specified torque.

Torque specification: 19-25Nm (1.9-2.6 m-kg, 14-19ft-lb)

12. After adjusting the ignition timing, disconnect the jumper wire from the test connector and reconnect the vacuum hoses.
