Final Assembly

1. Install oil pressure switch. Tighten to specifications.
2. Install oil cooler so that white paint is at the top. Tighten attaching bolts to specifications.
3. Apply a small amount of engine oil to rubber seal on oil filter, then hand tighten filter until rubber seal contacts base. Tighten filter an additional 1-1/6 turn with oil filter wrench.
4. Place a new intake manifold gasket in position, then install intake manifold assembly. Tighten bolts and nuts in two or three steps to specifications.
5. Install water outlet gasket with straight side upward.
6. Install water outlet, tighten attaching bolt and nut to specifications, then connect oil cooler hose.
7. Install thermostat into water outlet with jiggle pin at the top.
8. Position a new gasket with printed side facing water outlet.
9. Install thermostat cover. Tighten attaching bolt and nut to specifications.
10. Install front and rear engine hangers. Tighten to specifications.
11. Install power steering oil pump bracket. Tighten attaching bolts to specifications.
12. Install alternator strap and bracket. Torque attaching bolt for strap to 14-19 ft. lbs, and bolt for bracket to specifications.
13. Install alternator, tighten top and bottom bolts to specifications.
14. Install A/C idler bracket and power steering idler bracket. Tighten bolts to specifications.
15. Apply anti-seize compound or molybdenum-based lubricant to spark plug threads.
16. Install spark plugs.
17. Ensure crankshaft pulley timing mark (yellow) is aligned with indicator pin.
18. Apply engine oil to O-ring and install it onto the distributor.
19. Apply engine oil to the distributor driven gear.
20. Align the marks, then install the distributor.
21. Loosely tighten the distributor mounting bolt, then install the high tension leads.
22. Using a suitable lifting device, remove engine from engine stand.
23. Install coolant inlet pipe with a new gasket. Tighten attaching bolt to specifications.
24. Apply vegetable oil to O-ring, then install coolant bypass pipe. Tighten attaching bolt on side of cylinder block, nut on intake manifold and bolt on rear of block to specifications.
25. Connect water hose to BAC valve.
26. Install A/C compressor bracket, tighten attaching bolt to specifications.
27. Tap in oil level gauge pipe, then slide gauge stay over gauge pipe.
28. Apply sealant to the shaded area in the figure, then install engine mount and gauge stay. Tighten attaching bolt to specifications, then install oil level gauge.
29. Install right engine mount, tighten attaching bolt to specifications.
30. Install exhaust manifold with a new gasket, tighten bolts in two or three steps to specifications.
31. Install exhaust manifold insulator, tighten attaching bolts to specifications.
