Ignition Timing: Adjustments


1. Check condition of engine (spark plugs, leaks in hoses, etc.).
2. Turn all electrical loads "OFF."
3. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
4. Connect timing light.

Test Connector:





5. Ground test connector (green: 1-pin) with a jumper wire.

6. Check that timing mark on crankshaft pulley and mark on timing belt cover are aligned to specification:

11° ± 1° BTDC

7. If ignition timing is not within specification, loosen distributor lock bolts and rotate distributor housing to adjust.
8. Tighten distributor lock bolts to specified torque:

19 - 25 Nm (14 - 19 ftlb)

9. After adjustment, disconnect jumper wire from test connector.
