Ignition Timing: Adjustments
1. Check engine condition (spark plugs, leaks in hoses, etc.).
2. Turn all electrical loads "OFF."
3. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
Test Connectors:
4. Ground test connector (green: 1-pin) with a jumper wire.
5. Check that idle speed is within specification and adjust if needed. Refer to IDLE SPEED in this section.
750 ± 20 rpm (M/T in neutral)
770 ± 20 rpm (A/T in "P")
Timing Mark:
5. Check that timing mark on crankshaft pulley and mark on timing belt cover are aligned to specification:
5° ± 1° BTDC
6. If ignition timing is not within specifications, loosen distributor lock bolt and rotate distributor housing to adjust.
11. Tightenr lock bolt to 14 - 19 ftlb (19 - 25 Nm).
12. After adjustment, disconnect jumper wire from test connector.
