Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Vehicle Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection

1. Connect voltmeter between ECU terminal 1M and ground.
2. Turn ignition switch "ON."
3. Disconnect speedometer cable at transaxle.
4. Slowly turn cable one full turn.
5. Verify that voltmeter cycles from below 1.5V to approximately 4.5V four times.
6. If not as specified, check wiring, harness connections and speedometer.

While driving, ECU terminal 1M voltage should read approximately 4.5V steadily.

As an alternate method, the above procedure can be performed by connecting the voltmeter to EC-AT control unit terminal 1P rather than at the ECU. Test results will be the same.
