Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection

Igniter Testing:






NOTE: This test requires Mazda Special Service Tools (SST) or aftermarket equivalents.

CAUTION: While checking igniter, disconnect ignition coil connector.

1. Disconnect igniter connector.
2. Connect adapter (SST #49 H018 910) between igniter and wiring harness. Connect igniter checker (SST #49 F018 002) to harness adapter.
3. Connect an ohmmeter between adapter and ground. Connect positive meter lead to ground and negative lead to harness adapter. Set scale to X1.
4. Connect igniter checker power leads to battery.
5. Turn ignition switch "ON."
6. Push igniter checker switch SW2 up while observing ohmmeter. Pointer needle should jump up to approximately half scale and then return.
7. Replace the igniter if it does not perform as specified.
