Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

Fig. 6 P Range Switch Location:

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove upper panel from shift mechanism.
3. Disconnect P range switch connector Fig. 6.
4. Using a suitable ohmmeter, test for continuity as follows:
a. With selector lever in P range and and selector lever button released, continuity should exist.
b. With selector lever in P range and selector lever button depressed, continuity should not exist.
c. With selector lever in R, D, S or L ranges and selector lever button depressed, continuity should not exist.
5. If continuity tests are not to specifications, replace P range switch.
