Ignition Timing
1. Check engine condition (spark plugs, leaks in hoses, etc.).
2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.
3. Warm engine and run for three minutes at 2500 - 3000 rpm.
4. Connect tachometer and timing light.
5. Disconnect hoses from distributor vacuum control unit; plug hoses.
Test Connector:
6. Ground test connector (green: 1-pin) with a jumper wire.
7. Check that idle speed is within specification:
M/T: 800 ± 20 rpm
A/T: 770 ± 20 rpm
8. Adjust if idle speed is not within specification.
Fig. 7 Timing Mark:
9. Check that timing mark (YELLOW) on crankshaft pulley and mark on timing belt cover are aligned.
11° ± 1° BTDC
Fig. 8 Distributor Bolts:
10. If timing is not within specification, loosen distributor lock bolts and rotate distributor housing to adjust.
11. Tighten bolts to 14 - 19 ft lb (19 - 25 Nm)
12. After adjustment, disconnect jumper wire from test connector and reconnect vacuum hoses.
