Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Throttle Full Close Switch: Testing and Inspection

VARIABLE RESISTOR

Throttle Sensor Terminal Identification:

1. Disconnect throttle sensor connector from throttle sensor. Connect an ohmmeter between terminals "A" and "C." Resistance should be 3.5 - 6.5 ohms.
2. Connect an ohmmeter between terminals "B" and "C."

Resistance Check While Opening Throttle:

3. Gradually open throttle valve while checking resistance. With throttle valve fully closed, resistance should be below approx. 1K ohm. With throttle valve fully open, resistance should be approx. 3.5 - 6.5K ohms.
4. If not within specifications, check throttle sensor adjustment.

IDLE SWITCH

1. Disconnect throttle sensor connector from throttle sensor.
2. Connect an ohmmeter between terminals "C" and "D".

Continuity Check:

3. Check for continuity between terminals with a feeler gauge inserted between throttle stop screw and throttle valve lever. With a 0.5 mm (0.02 in) gauge inserted, there should be continuity between terminals. With a 0.7 mm (0.028 in) gauge inserted, there should be no continuity between terminals.

Throttle Sensor:

4. If not within specifications, loosen screws and rotate throttle sensor to adjust.
5. Tighten screws and seal them with white paint. After checking and adjusting the sensor, connect throttle sensor connector.

Throttle sensor input signal can be checked at ECU terminal 2G with ignition switch "ON."

Idle switch input voltage can be checked at ECU terminal 1E with ignition switch "ON." With accelerator pedal released, terminal voltage should be approximately 0V. With pedal depressed, voltage should be approximately 12V.
