Ignition Timing: Adjustments
ADJUSTMENTPreparation
1. Check the condition of the engine (spark plugs, leaks in hoses, etc.).
2. Make sure all accessories are OFF.
3. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature.
4. Connect atachometer and a timing light to the engine.
5. Apply parking brake.
Ignition Timing
1. Connect a jumper wire between the test connector (Green: 1-pin) and a ground.
2. Check the idle speed. Set it to the specified speed if necessary. (Refer to idle speed adjustment)
Idle speed: 750-790 rpm
3. Check if the timing mark (Yellow) on the crankshaft pulley and the mark on the timing belt cover are aligned.
Ignition timing: 4 - 6° BTDC
4. If the marks are not aligned, loosen the distributor lock bolts, and turn the distributor to make the adjustment.
5. Tighten the distributor lock bolts to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 19-25 Nm (1.9-2.6 kgf.m, 14-19 ft-lbs)
6. Remove the jumper wire.
Idle Speed
1. Ground the test connector to the body with a jumper wire.
2. Check that the idle speed is within specification.
Idle speed: 750-790 rpm
3. If the idle speed is not within specification, adjust the idle by turning the air adjusting screw.
4. After adjusting the idle speed, disconnect the jumper wire from the test connector.
