A/C Signal: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Enables the powertrain control module engine (PCME) to control air conditioning system operation for improved driveability under specific operating conditions. The A/C relay is the link between the PCME and the A/C cut-off control system. The system acts to improve idle smoothness just after starting and to maintain acceleration performance.

OPERATION
The PCME will initiate A/C cut-off under the following conditions by de-energizing the A/C relay.

A/C cut-off operates under these conditions:
- For approximately 5 seconds after engine start.
- For approximately 5 seconds at full throttle.
