Neutral Safety Switch: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Signals PCME, through PCMT, of gear selector position. Prevents starting except when gear selector is in "P" or "N" positions. Input is used in PCME calculations for:
^ Fuel injection quantity
^ Idle speed control
^ Purge control
^ Igniter (timing control)
^ A/C relay/cut-off
^ VICS solenoid

LOCATION
Right side transmission.

OPERATION
This a rotary-type switch that moves when gear selector is moved, signaling its position (P, N, D, etc.). PCMT monitors switch and relays gear selection information to the PCME.
