With Automatic Transaxle (ATX)

SPOUT Connector:

PREPARATION

1. Warm engine to operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.
^ Headlights
^ Blower
^ Rear window defroster
^ Power steering
3. Place shift lever in "P." Wait until coolant fan is stopped.

NOTE: If climate control panel is in DEFROSTER mode, A/C compressor will be on. Do not set this mode during timing and idle speed adjustment or self-diagnosis start-up.

ADJUSTMENT

1. Connect tachometer to #1 plug wire. Check for idle speed of 700 ± 50 rpm; adjust if needed.

2. Remove shorting bar from double wire SPOUT connector (B1-10).
3. Verify that idle speed is within 500 - 800 rpm.
4. Connect timing light. Verify that timing marks (yellow) on crank pulley and timing belt cover are aligned at 9° - 11° BTDC.
5. If not, loosen lock bolts and turn distributor to adjust. Tighten bolts to 14 - 18 ft lb (19 - 25 Nm).
6. Install shorting bar in SPOUT connector. Verify that timing is within 6° - 18° BTDC.
