Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection
IGNITER / Inspection1. Disconnect the igniter connection.
2. Connect the Special Service Tool (SST) 49 N018 001-(Adaptor Harness) between the Igniter and the wire harness.
3. Connect the connector (4-pin) of the SST 49 F018 002-(Igniter Checker) to the adapter harness.
4. Connect the power leads of the SST (Igniter Checker) to the battery.
Spark Test
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2. Disconnect the coil lead from the Distributor and hold it 5-10mm (0.20-0.39 in) from a ground.
3. Set the switch to "T1".
4. Flip "SW2" ON and OFF, and verify that strong blue sparks are discharged from the high-tension lead.
CAUTION: Holding the "SW2" switch on for more than one second can damage the igniter.
Voltage Test
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2. Connect a voltmeter to the black wire terminal of the SST (Adapter Harness).
3. Flip "SW2" ON and OFF, and verify that the voltmeter pointer fluctuates.
CAUTION: Holding the "SW2" switch on for more than one second can damage the Igniter.
