Receiver Dryer: Service and Repair

Removal/Installation

Replacement of the receiver/drier is necessary any time a major component of the refrigerant system is replaced. A major component includes the condenser core, compressor, evaporator core or a refrigerant hose/pipe. An evaporator core orifice or 0-ring is not considered a major component. However, the orifice should always be replaced when a compressor is replaced for lack of performance.

1. Discharge the refrigerant from the A/C system.
2. Remove in the order shown in the figure.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tighten evaporator core line to 35 - 42 N-m (3.5 - 4.2 kgf.m, 26 - 31 lb-ft).

Note: Drain refrigerant oil from the receiver/drier. Add the same amount drained plus 60 ml (2 oz.) of new refrigerant oil to the receiver/drier.
