Subject:
MIL ILLUMINATION CODE 332 COLD AMBIENT TEMP. NO DRIVEABILITY CONCERN

APPLICABLE MODELS
1994 B2300 with a manual transmission and a calibration code of 4-49U-R05, 4-49U-R10, *(4-49T-R10 or 4-49T-R00).

IMPORTANT:
This repair is not authorized for vehicles with other than the above calibration codes. Performing this repair on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and may be in violation of state and federal law.

DESCRIPTION

A Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate in cold temperatures without any related driveability concerns.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 332 may be stored in continuous memory. This may be caused by moisture in the exhaust freezing the EGR valve in a closed position.

Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, a revised Powertrain Control Module (PCM) installed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the concern in cold ambient temperatures.

2. Confirm calibration is 4-49U-R05 or 4-49U-R10.

NOTE
Calibration label is located on the driver's side "B" pillar.

3. Verify that the engineering part number is not F4PF-12A650-UB.

NOTE:
Engineering Part Number is located just below the bar code label on the PCM connector.

^ IF the vehicle has the above symptoms but not the indicated calibration codes, refer to section F of the workshop manual for troubleshooting information.

^ If the vehicle has the above symptoms and does not have a PCM with a F4PF-12A650-UB engineering part number and has a calibration code of 4-49U-R05, 4-49U-R10, *(4-49T-R10 or 4-49T-R00), proceed to step 4.

*NOTE:
Verify that the engineering part number is F4PF-12A650-MA or UA. These vehicle's calibration codes are 4-49T-R10 or 4-49T-R00 and still require proceeding to step 4.

4. Perform KOEO and KOER self diagnosis procedures. Refer to section F of the workshop manual.

^ If DTC 332 is present and no other codes are present, proceed to step 5.

^ If DTC 332 and other DTCs are stored, refer to section F of the workshop manual for troubleshooting and repair information.

5. Install the revised PCM. Refer to the Parts Information.

NOTE:
If the vehicle has calibration code of 4-49U-R05 and does not have an engineering part number of F4PF-12A650-MA or UA, the Idle Air Control Motor (IAC) must also be replaced with a new level part.

6. Perform KOEO and KOER self diagnosis procedures to confirm no DTCs are stored.

7. Confirm repair.

8. List the date, dealer number, alterations performed and Service Bulletin number on the "Authorized Modification" label.

9. Clean an area near the Emission Control Information decal (located on the radiator support) and install the "Authorized Modification" label.

10. Cover the decal with plastic shield.

NOTE:
This information advises technicians of the PCM change if future repairs are necessary.
