Ignition Timing: Adjustments

NOTE: Ignition timing is non adjustable.

PREPARATION
1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads off:

- Headlamp switch
- Blower switch
- Climate control panel switch

Note: If the climate control panel is in DEFROSTER mode, the A/C compressor will be ON. Do not set this mode during ignition timing and idle speed adjustment or self-diagnostic start-up.

3. Place the transmission into Neutral (MT) or Park (AT).

IGNITION TIMING
1. Perform Preparation. (Refer to above.)
2. Connect a timing light to the engine.
3. Disconnect the shorting bar from the SPOUT connector.
4. Verify that the ignition timing is within specification.

Specification: BTDC 8 - 12° (10 ± 2°)


5. If the ignition timing is not within specification, check the crankshaft position sensor for damage.
6. Connect the shorting bar into the SPOUT connector.
