Camshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Camshaft Position Sensor provides cylinder identification and camshaft position information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for ignition coil and fuel injector synchronization.

OPERATION
The Camshaft Position Sensor is a single Hall effect magnetic switch, which is activated by a single vane driven at "camshaft speed" within the distributor assembly.
