Key On Engine Running Test
KEY ON ENGINE RUNNING INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Perform Preparation.
Initial Inspection
Special Service Tool - Super STAR II Tester:
2. Connect the Super STAR II Tester to the data link connectors.
3. Set the switch select to EEC-IV position.
4. Set the readout switch to "FAST CODE" mode.
5. Turn on the Super STAR II Tester.
6. Start the engine and run at idle until the vehicle is at operating temperature.
7. Turn the engine Off.
8. Depress the "HOLD TEST" button to the "TEST" position.
9. Start the engine and let it idle.
10. Depress the brake pedal and turn the steering wheel 1 complete turn within 2 seconds after the ID code.
NOTE:
- ID code is received at the beginning of the Key On Engine Running Inspection Procedure. The Super STAR II tester beeps once for every two cylinders of the engine (e.g., three beeps equals 6 cylinders). The ID code is used to verify the proper Powertrain Control Module is in the vehicle.
11. Note any Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) numbers and check for the causes by referring to the check sequences on the DTC charts. Repair as necessary.
NOTE:
- Cancel the Diagnostic Trouble Code numbers by performing the after-repair procedure following repairs.
- After repairs are made, recheck for Diagnostic Trouble Code numbers by performing the Key On Engine Off Inspection Procedure.
