APPLICABLE MODELS
All 1994 B3000 model vehicles with an automatic transmission.
DESCRIPTION
Rough idle and/or stalling may occur during the first minute after the initial cold start in ambient temperatures of 50 - 70 degrees F (10 - 20 degrees C). This occurs from poor fuel quality (low volatility). To correct this concern, a countermeasure Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is available. This PCM has a revised cold starting, fuel strategy. Customers that complain of these symptoms should have the PCM replaced with the countermeasure part. Use the procedure listed below to determine if a new PCM is required.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Perform the diagnostic procedure according to section F of the workshop manual. Service as required.
2. Verify the concern after cold soak.
3. Confirm that the vehicle's PCM is not a countermeasure part.
NOTE:
Verify that the engineering part no. F4PF-12A650-NA, F4PF42A650-RA, F4PF-12A650-TA or F4PF-12A650-SA are not on the PCM. The engineering part no. is located just below the bar code label on the PCM connector.
4. If the symptom(s) is still present, install a new PCM.
NOTE:
To ensure correct part ordering, refer to the calibration number on the driver's side B pillar and the chart below.
5. List the date, dealer number and Service Bulletin number on the PCM Replacement label and install the label on to the radiator support.
NOTE:
This label informs technicians of the PCM change if future repairs are necessary.
6. Verify the repair after cold soak.
