Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Description and Operation
View: EGR System:
PURPOSE
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system recirculates a small amount of exhaust gas into the intake manifold to reduce the combustion temperature and reduce the NOx emissions.
CONSTRUCTION
This system consists of the EGR valve, EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid, EGR Differential Pressure Feedback Sensor, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and input devices.
OPERATION
Cold Engine
EGR operation is stopped to improve driveability when the engine temperature is cold.
- Cold Engine (Coolant temperature is less than 55°C (131°F).)
Warm Engine
The Powertrain Control Module controls the EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid to supply EGR gases.
